After taking a wonderful art appreciation course at Drew University, a small liberal arts college in New Jersey, I began developing an interest in art. But as life would have it, I followed other avenues, first as an elementary grade teacher and later while raising my sons, followed a 27year career in the finance industry, trading bonds for a financial firm in Hartford, CT. This opportunity occurred at a time when few woman were encouraged to have a place in this male-dominated industry. I was extremely fortunate to have a long career I loved.
After living in Connecticut all my life except for my years at college, my husband and I married (1994) and moved to Florida (in 2012) to Brevard County where he had roots and a desire to return. Previously I had not thought about moving to Florida. After the move, I found I loved Florida and would not want to leave here.
My interest in painting blossomed 4 years ago when I took lessons from a teacher in Cocoa Village, an artist I had met at the Studios of Cocoa Beach. There I discovered that I loved to paint. I began painting with acrylics and later used inks, oil pastels, pigments, metallic paints, glitter, and gold leaf. I often use a pallet knife and heavy paint to create thick texture. My early subjects of choice were flowers, birds and landscapes and I now paint in a more abstract, contemporary style.
I have a passion for painting as one of my lovely daughters-in-law noted in a text to me. I paint as often as I can and I love all the time I paint. I started painting in my office at home but after much dismay by my husband about the clutter, I recently moved my painting to a studio space which a friend and I share. I am thrilled with the change in environment and find the new space added enormous inspiration to my art.
I am extremely fortunate to have an interest in which I have such passion.
